KAAD Scholarships for Masters and PhD Students, 2013

Applications are open for well known KAAD Scholarships for students of developing countries. Each year, these scholarships are awarded to students for pursuing master’s degree, PhD or for a post-doctoral research project (2-6 months for established university lecturers) at a German university. There is no specific subject-preference. Applicants have to request through filling a questionnaire and sending it to the KAAD offices for applying these scholarships. Applications for the September selection need to be complete by end of June.

Study Subject(s): There is no specific subject-preference. However, the selection board has often given preference to courses and subjects that they felt to be of significance for the home country of the applicant. This holds true especially for subjects of PhD-theses. There is therefore a certain leaning towards “development oriented” studies – this does however not mean that other fields (cultural, philosophic, linguistic, etc.) cannot be of significance for a country and are ruled out.
Course Level: These scholarships are for pursuing master’s degree or a PhD at a German university or do a post-doctoral research project (2-6 months for established university lecturers) at a German university.

Eligibility: For the scholarship programme 1 of KAAD you can apply if you:
-come from a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East or Latin America
-have a university degree and professional experience from your home country
-want to acquire a master’s degree or a PhD at a German university or do a post-doctoral research project (2-6 months for established university lecturers) at a German university
-are a Catholic Christian (or general belong to a Christian denomination). Candidates from other religions can apply if they are proposed by Catholic partners and can prove their commitment to interreligious dialogue
-possess German language skills before starting the studies (KAAD can provide a language course of max. 6 months in Germany).

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: The students from a developing or emerging countries of Ghana, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon and Nigeria (Africa), Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and China (Asia), Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine/Israel and Syria (the Middle East) or Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil (Latin America) can apply for these scholarships.

Scholarship Description: The KAAD Scholarship Program 1 is addressed to post-graduates and to academics who already gained professional experience and who are interested in postgraduate studies (or research stays) in Germany. This program is administered by regional partner committees, staffed by university professors and church representatives. Normally documents are submitted to the committee of the applicant’s home country.

How to Apply: The first request is placed through filling the application questionnaire and sending it to the KAAD offices. Normally documents are submitted to the committee of the applicant’s home country. In the course of the application process, more documents need to be provided by the applicant and the KAAD-Partner-Committees are involved. If the pre-selection process has been positive for the applicant, the application is passed on to an independent selection board, which sits twice per year (in March and in September).

Scholarship Application Deadline: Applications for the September selection need to be complete by end of June. Many times, applicants get admission letters (especially for Master-courses)only when these deadlines have passed. In these cases, the university has to be asked to defer the admission to the next academic year. Applications can be made already before admission letters are received. However at the end of the application process, the applicant needs to show either an admission letter or a confirmation by the university that they are eligible for the course and that the application has been received and being processed.

Listening and Speaking

İn this post I like to talk about listening and speaking skills and I want to find some answers  for that question How can we improve these  skills ?

I am sure that everyone need to develop their listening and speaking skills. for me the most difficult section is listening  and the easiest section is speaking but also these  two section improves  together .I mean that if you do some practice for listening , you  can also make your speaking level high .

So what can we do for good speaking and listening skills :

1.Watch bbc : Maybe you heard this advice before many times  but this time I am not telling only the watch bbc . I am saying that choose a bbc video from youtube and convert it as a mp3 file and listen several times and try to understand every single words and phrase .if you do not understand video that your choice send me the video link and I will try to analyse  for you :)

2. Find different accents from youtube: it is also funny to listen different accents sometimes.even in london british people use many different accent and if you check only the  accents whichs are spoken in England you can improve your speaking and listening .

3.Try to find someone to talk on the phone or skype : sometimes very hard to find someone to talk english but  I am sure you can find someone to talk on skype .for this issue I am planning to open a new post to share our skype addresses to talk each other .

4.Record your voice : maybe this is the most usufel method for everyone . İf you can not find anyone to talk you can record your voice and  listen .and try to make analyse it .how is your accent? and compare it with others.

5.Read loudly : this is the another useful method .if you read loudly and listen yourself  in while that improve your all english skills in the same time .

how can we improve reading skills ?

in this post I want to look for this question .most of us ,ielts takers , are looking for improve reading skills.

some people loves reading naturally but other somes that they do not like reading even their own mother tongue.İf you like reading you can get high your reading level easily  but if you do not like you should find some method for it .

here is some of mine and general methods that  about reading ability and how to improve it :

1. find interesting something :  if you read something interesting for you then  that makes you feel motivated.and words comes naturally .therefore you want to read more and more.

2.Evaluate you reading habit to find out what you need to improve :   what kind of words are not familiar for you ? or what kind of sentences that they very hard to understand for you ? maybe scientific words .maybe environmental or medical .when you find it you have to move on it to make familiar for you.

3.Provide the best place for reading : it is really important actually because when you read something you have to focus on it , and the place must be silent to keep concentrate .

4.Find something to read on your level  : if you have a problem with reading you should find your level .even if sometimes makes you really bored you should  keep on your level .firstly you should start with the easier one then when you feel your reading is getting higher level then you can change the level .

5.Try to imagine when you read :it is probably the difficult thing for beginner students  but you should try.because if you imagine that what you read you can understand the words and easy to keep memorise them by imagination .
